Artist Spotlight: Tora2097

TurboSquid Artists, Featured Artists

After we made an open call for models for the TurboSquid home page, we were thrilled by the range of renders received. It would have been easy to get swept up by detailed vehicles, lifelike characters, and even ferocious animals submitted for the top spot, but the leather swivel chair from artist Tora2097 won us over with its relaxing yet elegant detail.

The artist, Tora2097, definitely has an eye for the little things that make a difference. We could go as far as to say that using any of Tora2097’s models might elevate an architectural visualization from common to upscale.

We took the time to find out how this talented artist got started in the modeling industry, and his experiences with CheckMate Certification.

How long have you been an artist?

I have been working an 3D artist for more than 12 years, the last 6 of them working professionally full time in the field of architectural visualization.

What’s most important when making 3D models?

In my opinion the most important aspect is to acquire solid information and reference material about what it is that you are going to model. I always gather as much info as possible prior to even opening a 3D application. I form a strategy as to how I am going to tackle the task at hand and only when I am sure that I have fully understood the model in its form, volume and function, I will start the modeling process.

How do you decide what to model?

I base my decisions on originality of the subject- stuff that has been done dozens of times before does not appeal to me- and on potential technical challenges for me as an artist. I am always looking for challenges, to create new approaches or at least improve and maximize existing ones.

What has been your experience with CheckMate?

Since I always aim for the highest quality possible I have the largest experience with the CheckMate Pro standard, and I have to admit that at first glance the required specs seemed daunting and extremely tedious to achieve. And true enough, the first few items needed one or two attempts more than I thought to make it through, but since then I now have more than a dozen approved CheckMate Pro models and a really streamlined process allowing me to work fast and efficient. What seemed overwhelming at first, is now no longer a problem and the quality of my models has thus improved further.

The staff has always been very helpful with any problems that occurred, it was -and continues to be- a pleasant relationship.

Thank you, Tora2097! We look forward to seeing more of your stunning models in the TurboSquid catalog.
