TurboSquid is excited to have top VFX Professionals from such established companies as Weta Digital, CNN, and Electronic Arts as part of the CheckMate Advisory Board. This group of CG heavy hitters recently came together to discuss how to continue to evolve the only industry standard for 3D models.
One might say that selecting this month’s featured model was influenced by our subconscious. Could it be the sense of calm that the serene setting gives us or the overall relaxed tone that surrounds this elegant model?
Whatever the reason, the detailed construction of this upscale leather swivel chair model by artist Tora2097 is worth a closer look. We took a few minutes to get to know Tora2097, the talented artist with a flair for archviz accents.
We are constantly upgrading, expanding and working to evolve TurboSquid into something that continues to be a resource for artists. Now it’s your turn to tell us which features would be the most beneficial to you, the artists.
Who better to rate models than by the artists skilled to create them? That’s exactly what we thought when it came down to creating a game that would provide accurate ratings that will ultimately improve the search results on TurboSquid.com.
We’ve been quietly building and testing a game that lets you, the artist, determine the quality of models in our ever growing online catalog.
A small group of artist have been beta testing the game and their response has been phenomenal, describing the game as “highly addictive”. Check out what our test group of players have been saying about 3D Expert (formerly known as 3D Critic).
This month, we decided to allow two featured models to share the spotlight atop our home page.
We were wowed by Jamie Hamel Smith’s sleekly styled Yamaha R6 motorcycle model, but then we thought, “what good is a bike without someone to ride it?” – so we paired it with an equally impressive, complementary creation, Vespa’s street biker model. We can almost hear this duo screaming past us on the track.
With two models, that also gave us twice the time with each of these talented Checkmate Pro Certified artists; click their names to read more about Jamie Hamel Smith and Vespa.

For those who missed the Game Developer’s Conference in San Francisco this year, a few Squids made their way to the expo floor earlier this month. Check out their top takeaways from what has become a Mecca of geekdom for gamers worldwide. Top picks included Autodesk’s newly announced “Hyperspace Madness” and Mindwave, a kit that boasts the ability to translate mental reaction into visible actions, by Neurosky.
In recent months, artists have been clamoring to get into the SquidGuild. With many of them bound by outside agreements, it seemed they may never have the chance, until now.
TurboSquid is excited to announce the SquidGuild Bridge, allowing previously ineligible artists the ability to have their models showcased on TurboSquid.com, as well as submitted for consideration to become CheckMate certified.
SquidGuild Bridge was designed to give these artists a gateway to becoming full-fledged members of the SquidGuild, while also expanding the variety and size of the CheckMate models catalog. We invite existing SquidGuild members to share their thoughts on this new program, as well as the program details with those artists you believe would be interested in participating.
For the month of March, our home page is showcasing this stunning CheckMate Pro model of an LCAC U.S. Navy hovercraft. We spent some time chatting with the artist, HD_Ready, to find out what inspires his digital creations. Click here to read the entire interview.
As our CheckMate Tools Contest nears the deadline for submissions, remember this – winning isn’t just about snagging a hefty cash prize, it’s also about bragging rights. Money is great, but being heralded as the top scripter in the land (at least by us) certainly ups the ante.
So tighten up your script and get it in by March 31st. The scripts-in-progress that we’ve gotten a sneak peak of have been very impressive, therefore we suggest bringing your “A” game to this competition.
