New Orleans, Louisiana, January 30, 2017 — TurboSquid, the world’s largest 3D marketplace, announced today that it has acquired both CGStudio and TF3DM. Both sites were built and operated by Silviu Claponea, who will also be joining TurboSquid as part of the deal.

“We’ve been admiring what Silviu has been able to build for quite a while now”, said Matt Wisdom, TurboSquid CEO. “He launched TF3DM while still in high school, and has turned it into the largest site for free 3D models in the world. He’s one of the few people that truly understands the ins-and-outs of running a digital marketplace, and we’re thrilled to add him to the team.”

TF3DM.com was launched in 2011 (originally as thefree3dmodels.com) and is focused on hosting and sharing 3D models. It was an almost immediate success, and it has become one of the most visited 3D sites in the world. After enjoying the rapid growth of TF3DM, Claponea and a fellow university student started CGStudio in 2014 to enter the professional 3D space.

When asked about the deal, Claponea said, “I’ve been fascinated with 3D from an early age, and what began as a labor of love has become a way of life for me. I’m excited about the opportunity to work on an even bigger platform with the rest of the TurboSquid team.”

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
