Take “Quick Preview” – Our Speedy New Search Feature – for a Spin

In case you’ve missed it, the search result pages on TurboSquid recently got a lot more interactive. The introduction of  ”Quick Preview” earlier this week allows site visitors the ability to quickly view multiple images of a single product within search results before visiting the product page.

After analyzing loads of data, we came to the conclusion that customers really want to get into the site, find what they need and get out as quickly as possible. This is the first in a number of changes that are in the works which center around shortening the customer journey, while not limiting exposure to as many relevant models as possible.

Change and Effect

While customers speed through the site, this new way of browsing will result in changes to product statistics. The number of  product views, currently available to artists as a  Product Statistics report, are anticipated to see some drop. Not to fret: we’ve added another valuable metric to the same report allowing artists to see how many times the product has been accessed using this new Quick Preview feature. At first launch, our servers were estimating that visitors were accessing up to 25 Quick Preview images per second—that’s a lot of data to capture. While we work to figure the fastest way to provide this information, the Quick Preview metrics included in Product Statistics reports are not currently providing real-time data. Our goal is to speed the delivery of this data up, but for now we are providing fair warning.

Search Controls

While we have seen very few visitors turn off the Quick Preview feature, the ability to do so is available as a Search Setting (as shown below).

Nearly Perfect 

The more data we have on how users interact with this new feature, the easier it is for our team to identify and resolve issues that arise. For example, this first release is not yet available for mobile users.

    This is good feature but we need another one – some more bonus for CheckMate Pro. It should be higher in search results. You encourage us to add products to certification so you have to give something back. It was good in beginning but now it’s not worth an effort because even undercutter can reach CheckMate Pro.
    So we need to CheckMate Pro products to be more exposed.

    Please provide a way to turn off Quick Preview preference cookie or something its very annoying for quick overview viewing which search result should be.

  3. The blog post actually shows you how to disable the Quick Preview function. Simply select “Search Settings” and choose the “X” under the Quick Preview section. If you make the selection then clear your cookies or change your login status, you will then have to reset the preference. If you find this isn’t working for you, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

    Paradoxically this feature could disturb our sells. Because client now judge product on small images without reading description. In many cases description promote product better than images, details are very important.
    We have problem with lack of shopping carts already.

    Thank you for your comment Spedition.

    While we agree that reviewing the product description and specifications is incredibly important, we now believe that the customer can now make a better decision to review this information from the search page.

    Before the customer had to make a decision to view a full preview based on a 90px x 90px thumbnail image. Now the customer has access to the larger images, which offers more visual information to help the customer with the decision process.

    We will continue to review the data and ensure that having quick previews are a good move for the site.

    This is good thing for customers, no doubt. But now vendor have only one chance to convince customer. If images do not convince customer there is no matter what is in description or ’3D Model Specifications’. No matter comments or preview files like test videos etc.
    I understand idea of quick previews but now we have to change our “strategy”.
    Customer don’t read full description now so what we do?

    A very important option your website is missing is a Clip Bin where people can save previews of what they want to buy later.I find it hard to search all over again another day for a model I liked in a previous search.

  8. Nice call, Boyce. We are actually working on a feature that would allow visitors to save their picks. I’d love to give an estimate as to when this will be introduced as a feature on the site, but there is no way to tell when it will be ready for launch. Those following our blog will definitely be the first to know. ;)
